Texas Commemorative: Who We Are

About Us

The office of Brett Bogus, the founder of Texas Commemorative, is covered in memorabilia: gold and silver coins dating from the late 1790s, notes and currency from the Republic of Texas, and notes about the history of the Republic of Texas. The office is small, but when prompted about Texas Commemorative, Brett’s eyes light up.

“In all of the states of the Union, very few of them have the history that Texas does; none of them have the type of state pride that Texas does.” From that, Brett’s idea for a company based in the rich history of the Lone Star State was born. A history buff with a conservative perspective and a dry sense of humor, Brett Bogus loves Texas and wants to share his enthusiasm for the state’s history.

“The state of Texas is full of history that is worth seeing and worth having. A person can’t own original works from Jefferson or Washington easily; but Texans have more than ample opportunity to obtain true artifacts from the Republic, such as a note of tender genuinely signed by Sam Houston.” His enthusiasm is infectious as he produces an original note from the Republic of Texas, signed by the legendary Texan himself.

A keen businessman with a knack for seeing the opportunities in a struggling economy, Brett is based in Humble, a small town in the northeast part of Houston. Over the last ten years and nearly 50 million dollars in sales with his clients, Brett’s companies have been selling gold, silver, platinum, rare coins, diamonds, jewelry, fine watches and currency. But if Brett has his way, the best is yet to come. Brett’s ideas and planning for Texas Commemorative have evolved over a decade of planning and waiting for the right time and it appears to be paying off; the people who he discusses it with always come away with his enthusiasm.

“My idea for Texas Commemorative started in the ‘90s, when I was selling US Mint produced Texas half-dollars and people’s pride in investing in them was palpable. At the time, the 1990’s the coins were so limited in availability that the market appreciated quickly. Nowadays it is difficult to acquire them in ‘uncirculated condition.’ As for the true rarity of these coins, out of 304,000 pieces coined by the U.S. Mint, eventually 154,522 were returned to the Treasury for melting. The net sale of the issue amounted to 149,478. With a population in Texas of just under 25 million, the total available for Texans is around 5 for every 10,000 people.”

Texans are unique for investing in assets that are liquid, like cattle, oil, property, gold and silver, and businesses, but are also worth passing on to their children and their children’s children. In all the states of America, no other state has the same pride that Texans do. Texas Commemorative gives people the opportunity to invest in Texas and the history that is rooted here. Items dating from 1836, when the Republic was founded, from maps, warrants, and bonds to currency and signed government documents. It isn’t just about being able to look at a coin or a note and see the inherent value; it’s about being able to pass this on to the next generation of Texans and watch the love affair with the state grow with them, as well. Texas Commemorative can assist in putting together a legacy to pass on.”
